Formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE) is a widely used method for preserving tissue samples, essential for various research applications. This technique helps maintain cellular morphology and structural integrity, making it invaluable for pathology and molecular studies.

FFPE Tissue Preparation Process

To create FFPE tissue blocks, samples undergo:

  1. Fixation – Tissue is preserved using formalin to prevent degradation.
  2. Processing – The sample is dehydrated and treated in a tissue processor.
  3. Embedding – The processed tissue is embedded in paraffin wax for long-term storage and sectioning.

Key Applications of FFPE Tissue

  • Histological Analysis – Used to prepare section slides for H&E staining, special stains, fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH), immunohistochemistry (IHC), and RNAscope in situ hybridization (ISH).
  • Molecular Research – Enables protein, RNA, and DNA extraction for applications in proteomics, next-generation sequencing (NGS), and biomarker discovery.
